Second Child Syndrome

Our dog Sugar had her 1st birthday this and I brought her to the vet for a checkup.  This was when I realized that Sophie turned 4 three months ago, and I still haven’t scheduled her annual checkup.  Looking back at my older posts it’s easy to see that there is much more about Gracie on the blog.

Actually, Sophie is pretty much the reason I stopped blogging.  That’s not completely fair-I also stopped because Steven mentioned me “always on the computer” one day while I was writing.  When I recently mentioned this to him he said that he never thought I blogged too much. Actually, he is happy that I have the online journal for Gracie.  Communication, folks.  It’s a wonderful thing.  I am often complemented on my communication skills at work.  When I come home and tell Steven about thee instances, we both laugh.

I just didn’t want to take the time to do it while caring for two.  If you have two (or more) children or if you’ve ever heard any birth order theories, you may already know about this.  There is much more hullaballoo surrounding the first child.  I mean, she’s your first; the game changer.  Of course, I’m speaking in generalities, but you’ve already experienced all the “firsts” and you are so consumed with that new little person you want to document EVERYTHING.  When the second one comes along, either you are too tired, lazy, or you just realize that it’s not that important to have a picture of their first poop on the potty.  In my case, I was busy trying to care for a toddler and a newborn.  I documented some milestones, but I used an app instead of a baby journal.  I took just as many pics and videos (well, almost), but they weren’t uploaded anywhere.  Gracie and Sophie both love looking at baby pictures of themselves, as do I; so I’d like to get some old stuff of Sophie’s up here.  I’m not sure that it’ll benefit anyone but me, so if I actually do it, I likely won’t posts the links to facebook.

Poor Sophie.
She's a tough one.  Good thing too, because she's damn clumsy!  I'm not sure either of those traits are due to her birth order.  This picture was taken shortly after she accidentally fell into the Tickfaw today.

Quivering Ovaries?

Not this girl.

Last week I got to hold a coworker's new baby for a long while. Normally, this would make my ovary (yes, just the one) hurt.  This time, all it did was make my pits sweat.  She (the baby) was wonderful and cute and sweet (and warm), but I didn’t feel that normal longing ache that I usually get. So maybe this is it-the end of baby-making.  If it is, my psychiatrist will be happy to hear it.  Although, if there are no more kids, it may mean less visits and consequently, less money for him J

For me, 35 is the cut-off age.  I already feel older than I am, so if I wait any longer I think it would spell doom. Besides, I am blessed with two healthy girls. Why tempt fate?  Just like I wasn’t definitive about coming back to blogging, though, I won’t be definitive about this.  According to my calendar, I have until December to get prego and deliver before I turn 36.  I’ll keep you posted.

Happy Mardi Gras!
