"What?!?" you say. But she had 6 kids. How can this be?
I can't believe i forgot about this, but my mom got off of birth control and didn't have me until 3 years later. Before that she had 5 kids back to back. And my dad had another kid in the meantime too, so it probably wasn't him. She thinks it was being on birth control but i know the real reason...SHE WAS OLD*! She started with her 1st 5 kids when she was 14. Prime time for our beautiful young bodies to make beautiful young eggs! The #1 problem for undiagnosed infertility is the age of the eggs. When she started tying to have me she was 27, so she would have had a 15-20% more chance of being infertile than in her younger years. (She was 30 when i was born.)
I've been doing a lot of reading lately and one of my books starts out with these statistics...i didnt' pull them out of my rear:) Pretty interesting, really how our reproductive systems seem to have not caught up with our evolving everything else-like life span. We're living longer, better lives and everyone is in agreement that postponing childbirth is great for contributions to society, but bad for our "old eggs."
*Of course we should factor in the fact that she didnt' know when she O'd...once she told me that she thought the best time to get pregnant was 5 days before and after your period. Five days after, maybe, if you have a lond period and your man has super-sperm! Jeez...i love technology:) No one had the plethora of information on the internet back when.
